(Tuesday afternoon) It seems AsiaPundit, Glutter, BillsDue and a number of other sites are presently not directly accessible from Shanghai or Chengdu. I’m not sure if this is temporary or not, although my initial impression is that the ban on TypePad-hosted sites may have been restored.
Simon World can still be read from Shanghai, although not in Chengdu. (UPDATE: Simon is live in Chengdu, see comments)
I’d appreciate it if China-based visitors who can access would comment on whether this site is blocked in your region.
(UPDATE Tuesday 20:30) Verified through a tech-savvy friend on the Shanghai webloggers list, TypePad is down in Shanghai.

It’s probably getting filtered at the national firewall?
Unabrewer reports via e-mail that we’ve lost Haining… one or two days ago.
(WEDNESDAY MORNING) At the Peking Duck,
it’s noted in the comments that TypePad sites are inaccessible in
Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou - as well as Lianyungang, Jiangsu
Province.
(WEDS AFTERNOON) Andrea has noted via e-mail that TypePad sites are also down in Xiamen.
Imagethief reports that
there is an outage of ’some’ TypePad sites in Beijing. Also a post in the
comments notes that TypePad sites are blocked in Xinjiang and Sam of Shenzhen Ren says TypePad sites have been down for a few days. It seems Haining
and Shenzhen were hit before Beijing and Shanghai (being a novice, I’m
wondering if it’s taking things a while to spread through the system).
Noting the filtering of ESWN, Will says the system seems to be stopping specific content.:
"In effect, the system is doing just what you think. Part-way through
the transmission it’s identifying the site as prohibited, either via
content filtering (seems likely in this case) or IP/URL/DNS blocking
(less likely since these would prevent even a fragment from loading).
I’ve trapped the incoming page a couple of times with browser tricks,
and it always cuts off at the same place."
Also, on the blocking of some sites and not others:
A
quick experiment reveals that Typepad blogs, China or otherwise, with
“typepad” in the domain name (e.g. blog.typepad.com) are blocked,
although Typepad-hosted blogs that have their own domain names are
sometimes (not always) accessible, as are Typepad hosted blogs carrying
the old “blogs.com” domain. Asiapundit uses its own domain name, but is
still unaccessible. The variation in who is blocked and who is not may
have to do with the IP ranges that Typepad uses, rather than domain
names, especially if it incorporated other blogging services at various
times.
With that, the TypePad block seems to be national. Although it’s not
catching everything and some domain-mapped sites are getting through.
More disturbing are the
reported blocks in some areas on Horse’s Mouth, Simon World and the
filtering of ESWN. These are not TypePad hosted and that could mean
more advanced filtering has been activated.
Thank you Cisco.

I just left a post on my blog asking readers to confirm whether or not they can access your blog. If not, I’ve asked them to leave a comment on my post.
(at least I can comment through this proxy browser)

Typepad Blogs Blocked in China
Rebecca MacKinnon and Asiapundit are reporting (and have confirmed) that all typepad blogs are being blocked by the great firewall of China. The twist to this story is that Cisco Systems (a US company) developed the filtering technology.
