Although this item has been featured elsewhere, AsiaPundit is recommending that all readers take a look at this 1942 US Army Pocket Guide to China for its insightful lessons on “How To Spot a Jap.”:

Spotthejap

After a review of the manual, you should have no excuse if you score poorly on AllLookSame.

The head of the foreign Affairs Office at my University could not recall any of the foreign staff’s namess the other day….He, seriously, told me that all caucasians look alike….

    I am working on a manual now….

I will be linking back to this one…Too funny!

With the way the Japanese race are evolving(artifically?) in appearences among many other traits, pretty soon we
may need a guide to help tell them apart from whites, especially those with thick maned
    and elongated coiffure.

    namess?

  5. Jasiminne Says:

isn’t the term ‘jap’ supposed to be offensive to japanese?
equaivalent to calling people from hong kong as ‘honkies’?

and curiously,is the manual for real? imagine the uproar this would cause among the asians when they simplify the traits of their race to distinctive labels: legs start at the chest, eyes towards the nose etc.

good find.must bookmark and read and try it out on tourists:

“Sumimasen kudasai! anata tachi wa nihon jin desu ka? (xcuse me are u japs?) ”
    when they ask why:
“Cos you look like you don’t have legs!”

  6. Eric Says:

It does seem insensitive and racist by today’s standards but remember this guide is from WWII. And yes,
the word Jap is considered offensive in the US at least. In other parts of the world it isn’t.

  7. mahathir_fan Says:

    The manual is outdated.

I’m a Chinese Malaysian and when I was 8 years or so, I remember being taught that Japanese people are short. Then at age 9, I made my first trip to Japan. To all my parents and their friend’s surprised, they were remarking about “how tall the Japanese were” compared to their stereotypical belief.

But I have been told that dick size is still short compared to Chinese. I have no experience there. Don’t watch too many Jap porns. But Chinese dick size is about as big as American. That I know for sure as can also be seen from the survey: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2005-04/21/content_436320.htm

I haven’t been to Japan for more than 20 years now so it is possible that they have now all grown taller. I have noticed that even Chinese kids today are all more taller than during my generation. 6 footers are now pretty norm for Chinese kids raised in middle class. Before it was like 1 in a 100. But now, there is a good size of them reaching 6 feet by age 17.

    mahathir_fan your an idiot.
